Yamaguchi Tourist Attractions!

Yamaguchi Prefecture is located on the wastern edge of Honshu, with a mild climate and few floods and earthquakes. Why did I travel to Yamaguchi?Because it’s a place I’ve never been to.There are many people involved in the Meiji Restoration.There are many historical buildings,and there are not many tourists,so you can enjoy sightseeing at your leisure.Yamaguchi has an airport and a Shinkansen station.From there, you will need a rental car for sightseeing.

Tsunosima Bridge

Opened in 2000. Total construction cost 14.9 billion yen. Strong winds will stop vehicle traffic.The scenery is so beautiful that you will want to take picture.There is a lighthouse and a souvenir shop on the small island across the bridge.

Motonosumi Shrine

This shrine was personally built by a localfisherman.This is a fairly famous shrine in Yamaguchi.

Shokasonjuku Academy is world heritage.

An academy founded by Shoin Yoshida.Shoin Yoshida(1830~1859) Samurai, Educator.This place has produced many politicians.It is World Heritege.

This is a shrine dedicated to Yoshida Shoin.

Hagi Castle Ruins

The castle was built in 1604 by Terumoto Mori. There is no castle tower, only stone walls remain.

Hagi Reverberatory Furnace is world heritage.

It is a reverberatory furnace made aiming at the Western style. A reverberatory furnace melts metal. The Hagi clan built reverberatory furnaces to strengthen their military power against foreign threats. This is the chumney part. However, there is no record of it actually being used, because it was a prototype.

Akiyoshidai has a limestone cave underground.

This is a karst land.There ie a limestone cave that is a natural monument.There is a 1 kirometers sightseeing course.

Meirin Elementary School

This school was opened in 1718 by the feudal lord Mori Yoshimoto for the education of his retainers. It was in use until March 2014. Now closed, it is an exhibition room, restaurant and shop.

Ruriko-ji Temple

It was built in 1399 by Moriakira Ouchi, the younger brother of the feudal lord Yoshihiro Ouchi. The five-storied pagoda on the grounds of Ruriko-ji Temple is a nationai treasure.

Chomonkyo

It is a long valley along the Abu River. There is a walking path.

This is a spear monument located in Tokiwa Park in Ube City.

Kintaikyo Bridge.

It is one of the best wooden bridges in Japan.This is a bridge that connects Iwakuni Castle on the mountain and the castle town.In front of the bridge are souvenir shops and restaurants.

Ganryujima Island

This is the place where Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro fought.Both are swordmen.The reason they fought was to decide who would be the guide for the daimyo.This is a famous story in Japanese history.The island is reached by regular boat.

Dannoura Battlefield

This is the place where the Taira clan and Genji clan fought in 1185.This is a faction fight.In the end,Genji won.

Sumiyoshi Shrine

The main shrine is a national treasure.

  • Yuda onsen

These two hot springs are famous.Since the famous hot springs are crowded, I stayed at Yume Onsen.

Fugu is delicious.🐡

Shimonoseki’s fugu is famous.Fugu has a light taste and is chewy.

Kawara soba is local food.

A dish with green tea soba on a hot tile.
