1.See Japan’s Largest Dam!

Kurobe Dam

It was built over a period of seven years from 1956 to solve the power shortage after the war.It is located among the highest mountains in Japan.It’s impressive to be able to see it up close.

You can get to the dam by train and bus.There is another trekking couse that takes six hours.Mikuriga Pond along the couse offers a spectacular view!You can see the pond,when the snow melts in July.

2. See the Great Buddha and a national treasure temple!

Takaoka Great Buddha

In The Kamakura period, Minamoto no Yoshikatsu made a five-meter-tall wooden Buddha statue. Burned twice and rebuilt in 1933. It is a seated statue of Amida Nyorai with a height of 16 meters using Takaoka copperware. Below the statue is a wooden Buddha head.

Zuiryu-ji

It was built in 1614 to mourn for the lord of the Kaga Domain, Maeda Toshinaga. It took 20 years to build,and the building is the only national treasure in Toyama.It is lit up at night.

3.Go to the Toyama Castle Ruins!

It was built in 1543 by the feudal lord Jinbo Nagamoto. The residence of the Etchu Maeda family. It is now a park.

4.Take a Tram in Toyama City!

There are trams running within Toyama City.It’s convenient after getting off the Hokuriku Shinkansen at Toyama Station.

5.The Tulip Garden is Beautiful!

The Tonami Tulip Fair runs from April until mid-May.There are 3 million flowers blooming inside the venue.

6. Eat Toyama Specialties!
